Attendance policy
Attendance Policy, Terms and Conditions at Hammer and Hound Forge
The Terms and Conditions for attending our courses is non-negotiable.
1. Safety Requirements
Clothing & Footwear: All participants must comply with the required clothing and footwear policy. Detailed guidance can be found in our FAQ page, or on our craftcourses profile, also on the FAQs.
Personal Adjustments: Long hair must be tied back. Loose items such as cords and laces must be secured. Participants are expected to make any other reasonable adjustments to their attire to ensure their safety and that of others.
Health & Fitness: Participants must be of sound mind and body. Anyone under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or deemed too unwell to safely participate will be refused service without refund, as this poses a risk to themselves and others.
2. Workshop Conduct
Participants must follow all safety instructions and only use equipment after being inducted on safe workshop practices.
Equipment must be treated with care and respect. Dangerous, irresponsible, or negligent behaviour may result in immediate removal from the course without refund.
Hammer and Hound Forge reserves the right to hold participants liable for any damage to equipment resulting from negligence or misuse.
3. Course Bookings & Cancellations
Public Courses:
Bookings made via CraftCourses.com are subject to both CraftCourses' and Hammer and Hound Forge’s policies.
To reschedule a booking, a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice is required. CraftCourses.com bookings require 4 weeks’ notice, in line with their cancellation policy.
Any changes are made at the discretion of Hammer and Hound Forge and may not always be possible.
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone public courses due to low enrolment. In such cases, participants will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
Private Bookings:
Private sessions may be rescheduled with a minimum of 72 hours’ notice. Rescheduling requests are subject to availability.
Refunds for private bookings are not available, but if you cannot attend your booked date please let us know and we will happily reschedule your private booking.
If postponing your date is unsuitable (E.g. you are visiting Northumberland from afar) we strongly recommend that you take a travel/event insurance policy. These are easy to obtain, commonly cost £15-£20 from most main insurers and will cover you in the event that you cannot attend your date and will be unable to postpone.
In the event that Hammer and Hound forge is unable to fulfil a booking participants will be offered alternative dates or a full refund.
4. Grounds for Removal (Without Refund)
Hammer and Hound Forge reserves the right to remove any participant from a course under the following circumstances:
Being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or unfit due to illness.
Non-compliance with clothing and footwear safety requirements.
Engaging in dangerous, negligent, or disruptive behaviour.
5. Additional Policies
Late Arrival Policy
Participants who arrive late are still welcome to join the course; however, they must first be inducted in safe tool use, forging procedures, and workshop health and safety before taking part. If our blacksmiths are actively leading demonstrations, you may need to wait until they are available to conduct the induction properly. For this reason, we strongly recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to ensure a prompt and smooth start.
Accessibility or Medical Needs
If you have any accessibility or medical needs that may affect your ability to forge safely, please contact us in advance so we can discuss how best to accommodate you. Some medical conditions (e.g., pregnancy) may make forging unsafe.
Cancellations due to a change in physical condition are subject to the cancellation policy associated with your type of booking (e.g., public or private).
Photography and Media Consent
Participants are welcome to take photographs during the course and are free to share them on social media as they wish.
Our blacksmiths will also offer to take photos of you in action. These images are yours to keep, and we’ll offer to send them to you after the session.
At the end of the course, we’ll ask for your verbal consent if we’d like to use any photos on our social media pages. We will not post images of you without your permission. If you later wish for us to remove a photo, just contact us and we’ll do so without hesitation.
Theft
Hammer and Hound Forge reserves the right to provide images and personal details to the police in the event of a theft of our, or another participant's property.
